6 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Remodeling a Basement
How many of your neighbors have a remodeled basement?
Try to find out how many people in your neighborhood have recently remodeled a basement. You don’t want to be the last house on the block with an outdated basement (or no basement at all) when your neighbors all have new basement remodels. Otherwise, your property value could be lowered.
When will the basement contractor be working?
Ask the basement contractor what hours their crew will be remodeling a basement. If you need them to begin at a special hour during certain days (due to work, children, etc.), then be sure to tell them. All basement contractors should be able to give you a starting date and an expected finishing date.
What is the Basement Contractor’s Payment Schedule?
Always confirm how the basement contractor expects to be paid. Some will bill bi-weekly based on the amount of work done, some monthly, and some bill in milestone payments.
Does anyone in your home regularly exercise?
If so, consider a basement gym.
Do you live with children or teenagers?
Will you be entertaining guests?
